Citadel above Huy on the Meuse, built between 1818 and 1823 under King William I of the Netherlands as part of the Wellington Barrier defensive line, on the site of the former castle of Huy. Used by the Germans as a disciplinary camp in the First World War, it served from 1940 to 1945 as an internment and transit centre holding more than 6,500 political prisoners and hostages, and has housed a Museum of the Resistance and Concentration Camps since 1992.
