A former royal and imperial château above the Seine, given by Louis XIV to his brother Philippe d'Orléans in 1658 and laid out with gardens by Le Nôtre; Napoleon I was proclaimed emperor there in 1804. Burned by a shell during the 1870 siege of Paris and later razed, the château itself is gone, but its 460-hectare park, with the Grande Cascade and formal gardens, survives as a national estate.
