A palace built from 1628 by Cardinal Richelieu, who bequeathed it to Louis XIII in 1636; Anne of Austria and the young Louis XIV lived there during the Fronde. Passed to the House of Orléans in 1692, it gained Victor Louis's arcaded galleries in the 1780s, once a fashionable hub of Parisian life, and its garden has held Daniel Buren's striped columns since 1986.
