From 1873 to 1973, the Poudrerie nationale de Sevran-Livry produced powders for both civil and military use, for firearms as well as for rockets. During the First World War more than 3,000 people worked there. After the plant shut down, its last director, René Amiable, founded in 1982 the association Les Amis du Parc Forestier de la Poudrerie together with the museum that now bears his name, in order to save the technical and human memory of this state site turned forest park. The visit covers thirteen exhibition rooms and galleries: machinery and tooling, samples, plans and archives, but also the daily life of the men and women who worked there. Particular attention is given to the steam-driven motive power installed by Gustave Maurouard. The buildings still scattered under the trees of the park are themselves witnesses to this unusual factory, and the museum's committee also runs guided walks through the park's powder-making heritage. School groups and adult groups can book a guided tour all year round. This is an entirely volunteer-run museum, and its availability is very limited: entry is free and unguided, but only on Sunday afternoons, from 14.30 to 17.30, roughly every other Sunday, from March to June and then from September to December. The 2026 calendar published by the association gives 1, 15 and 29 March; 12 and 26 April; 3, 17 and 31 May; 7, 21 and 28 June; 6 September; 4 and 18 October; 8 and 22 November; and 6 December for the Sainte-Barbe celebration, plus the European Heritage Days on 19 and 20 September, from 14.00 to 18.00, with a guided walk of the park leaving at 15.00. Nothing at all in January, February, July or August. Access is on foot inside the park: about five minutes from the west gate, opposite the Poudrerie golf course in Livry-Gargan, where you can park, or a quarter of an hour from the main car park on allée Eugène Burlot in Vaujours. By public transport, RER B to Sevran-Livry or Vert-Galant then a twenty-minute walk, or bus 623.
