Opened in September 2006 and named after Michel Chartier, the first president of the Marne et Gondoire agglomeration, the Rentilly cultural park is the former manorial estate of Bussy-Saint-Martin, now in public hands. Woodland avenues, a lake, meadows and follies make up an English-style landscape that visitors wander through freely, about twenty minutes' walk from Torcy station on the RER A. At the centre of the estate the château houses the inter-communal museum. Reworked in 2014, it was stripped of its internal partitions to offer bare volumes for contemporary art exhibitions, while its façades were wrapped in a reflective skin that mirrors the surrounding trees. The programme brings together public collections, private foundations and works produced on site. A former greenhouse, the salle des trophées, serves as a documentation centre for art history, architecture and landscape; the orangery is currently closed to the public. Everything on the site is free. The park is open every day from 9am to 8pm. The château, however, opens only a few afternoons a week and its timetable changes between school term and school holidays: it is worth ringing 01 60 35 46 72 before travelling if the exhibition is the main point of the visit.
