A former tile works that became an internment camp in September 1939, where people of thirty-nine nationalities were held, and later an antechamber to Auschwitz as thousands of Jewish men, women and children were deported from it in August and September 1942. The only major French internment and deportation camp to survive intact, it opened as a memorial site in 2012.
