Roman villa at Prima Porta, on the Via Flaminia north of Rome, identified as a residence of Livia, wife of the emperor Augustus, and excavated from 1863-1864. The dig brought to light the celebrated marble statue of Augustus of Prima Porta, now in the Vatican Museums, and a subterranean hall painted around 30-20 BCE with one of the earliest and finest examples of continuous Roman garden fresco, detached in 1951 and now displayed in Rome's Palazzo Massimo.
