Former colliery complex at Grand-Hornu near Mons, built between 1810 and 1832 for industrialist Henri De Gorge to designs by architects François Obin and Bruno Renard, combining mining buildings with 425 workers' houses around a neoclassical oval courtyard. Mining ceased in 1954 and the restored site, a UNESCO World Heritage property since 2012, now houses CID, the design and architecture centre of Grand-Hornu.
