Benedictine abbey founded in 1034 by Herluin, whose school, led first by Lanfranc and then by Anselm, both future archbishops of Canterbury, became renowned across medieval Europe. Turned into a military horse depot under Napoleon, it regained a monastic community in 1948; visitors can see the 15th-century Saint-Nicolas tower and the cloister.
