Opened in 1996 in Gentilly, the Maison de la photographie Robert-Doisneau bears the name of the photographer who grew up just around the corner. It does not hold his prints — the Atelier Robert-Doisneau looks after those — but carries on his legacy: humanist photography, the documentary approach, attention to the real and to suburban territory, then and now, and well beyond France's borders. Three exhibitions a year are shown, drawn from historic holdings, from contemporary artists, or from professional and amateur archives. The house also runs "La photographie à l'école", an annual event exhibiting children's photographic work — the 25th edition, "Nature, contre-nature", ran from 11 June to 14 August 2026. Cyanotype and anthotype workshops, exhibition tours and group activities round out the programme, and a resource centre documents the collection. Admission is free. Open Wednesday to Friday 1.30pm-6.30pm, Saturday and Sunday 1.30pm-7pm; closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Only the ground floor is accessible to visitors with reduced mobility. As at many venues with a rotating programme, the galleries close between exhibitions, so it is wise to check the calendar before travelling. The venue is served by RER B at Gentilly, metro line 14 at Hôpital Bicêtre and tram T3a at Stade Charléty.
