Opened in December 1998, it occupies a glass building designed by the architect Adrien Fainsilber, on the banks of the Ill facing Petite France. The only major French museum to cover an unbroken span from 1870 to the present day, it holds groups of works by Arp, Kandinsky and Brauner, and Gustave Doré's Christ Leaving the Praetorium.
