Founded in 1793 from works seized during the Revolution, the museum has occupied a pavilion built in the 18th century by Emmanuel Héré on place Stanislas since 1936, enlarged with a contemporary wing in 1999. Its 40,000 works cover European painting from the 14th to the 20th century and an extensive collection of Daum glassware.
