Museum founded in 1828 by the mayor Adrien de Martainville and housed in the former 17th-century Couvent Sainte-Marie, with the naturalist Félix-Archimède Pouchet as its first curator. Closed to the public for ten years, it reopened in 2007 and holds more than 500,000 objects and specimens from around the world.
