The Montmaurin museum traces 400,000 years of human occupation, from the Coupe-Gorge cave — where human remains some 200,000 years old and a cave lion skeleton were unearthed — to the Gallo-Roman villa of Lassalles, a vast agricultural estate transformed in the 4th century into a 5,800-square-metre palace with two peristyles, baths and a hexagonal Gallic temple.
