Amiens Cathedral, begun in 1220 under architect Robert de Luzarches, is the largest Gothic building in France by volume and rises to 112.70 metres; it has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1981. The visit climbs 307 steps to the top of the north tower and takes in the treasury, built up since 1206 around the relic of the head of Saint John the Baptist brought back from the Fourth Crusade.
