Fashion and costume museum opened in 1983 in the Palazzina della Meridiana, a wing of the Pitti Palace in Florence built from 1776 under Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo to designs by Gaspare Paoletti. Its holdings of more than 6,000 pieces span clothing and accessories from the sixteenth to the twenty-first century, including funerary garments of Cosimo I de' Medici and his family and creations by designers such as Valentino, Armani and Versace.
