Sanctuary in Val Camonica where an earlier place of worship, in use from the 5th century BCE, was replaced in the early 1st century CE by a Roman temple dedicated to Minerva, enlarged under the Flavian emperors when the valley gained the status of an independent Roman community. Its main hall held a marble statue of the goddess copying a 5th-century-BCE Greek original; the sanctuary fell out of use by the late 4th century CE and was rediscovered only in 1986, opening to visitors in 2007.
