Fortress built between 1230 and 1242 for Saint Louis and his mother Blanche of Castile, ringed by seventeen towers and more than 800 metres of ramparts overlooking the Maine river. Since 1954 it has housed the Apocalypse Tapestry, woven between 1373 and 1380 for Louis I of Anjou, one of the largest medieval tapestries to survive.
