Museum opened in May 1984 in the former Toussaint abbey church, founded in the 12th century and fitted for the occasion with an overhead glass roof by the architect Pierre Prunet. It brings together nearly seven hundred works by the Angevin sculptor Pierre-Jean David d'Angers (1788-1856), mostly original plaster casts: statues, busts and medallions.
