Red sandstone fortress of the lords of Castelnau, vassals of the counts of Toulouse, built from the 12th century onward on a promontory above the Dordogne valley. Ruined by a fire in 1851, it was restored over thirty years by the opera singer Jean Mouliérat, who bequeathed the château and its collections to the state.
