Beneath the choir of Bourges Cathedral, the lower church and its Romanesque crypt, built between 1195 and 1206 to offset the slope of the ground, hold the kneeling effigies of the Duke and Duchess of Berry. The north tower, rebuilt between 1508 and 1542 after its 1506 collapse, rises 65 metres above the cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1992.
