Amphitheatre of Mediolanum Santonum, begun under Augustus and completed under Claudius, one of the oldest in Gaul, set against the slopes of a natural valley. Measuring 126 by 102 metres, it could hold some fifteen thousand spectators; abandoned in the 4th century and later quarried for stone, it has been listed as a historic monument since 1840.
