Franciscan monastery founded in 1633 above the hilltop village of Saorge, in the upper Roya valley. Its four-gallery cloister preserves 18th-century frescoes depicting the life of Saint Francis, and the monastery, bought by the state in 1967, has hosted a writers' residency since 2001.
