Founded in 1889 in the former Palais des Arts, a building erected from 1846 to 1851 by the architect Étienne Boisson. It traces the three trades that made Saint-Étienne's name: ribbon-weaving, with the world's largest collection and its Jacquard looms; firearms, France's second-largest collection; and the bicycle.
