Founded in 1983 following the archaeological discoveries made during construction of the Centre Bourse, it is the largest urban history museum in France. Entirely renovated by the architect Roland Carta and reopened in 2013, it unfolds twenty-six centuries of Marseille's history across thirteen sequences and adjoins the ancient Greek harbour, now the Jardin des Vestiges.
