Founded in 1847 from works seized during the Revolution, the museum moved in 1893 into the Hôtel de Francqueville, an 18th-century mansion enlarged between 1989 and 1994. It brings together archaeological collections, a fine art gallery featuring Rodin, Camille Claudel and Matisse, and nearly 1,500 works of geometric abstraction.
