Set in a former grain hall raised in 1889 by the architect François Pelaz, the museum reopened in 2012 after lengthy renovation. Built up through the bequests of Savoyard collectors, its collection of Italian paintings is the third-largest in France, spanning the Trecento to the Florentine and Neapolitan Baroque schools.
