Founded in 1821 by the mayor Dusillet and the sculptor Jean-Séraphin-Désiré Besson, the museum has occupied the Pavillon des Officiers, an example of 18th-century Franche-Comté military architecture, since 1980. It brings together regional archaeology, French, Italian and Nordic paintings from the 17th to the 19th century, and a collection of Figuration Narrative art.
