Opened in 1912 in the former episcopal palace built from 1766 to 1774 by the architect Joseph Brousseau, the museum overlooks the Évêché gardens. It holds one of the richest collections of Limoges enamels, from the Middle Ages to the present, paintings by Renoir, who was born in the city, and an Egyptian collection.
