Founded in 1882 at the initiative of the painter Victor Jeanneney, the museum occupies the former Ursuline convent built from 1680 to 1683. It holds Gallo-Roman funerary stelae and the largest group of works by Jean-Léon Gérôme, a native of Vesoul, whose name it took in 2024.
