Carthusian monastery founded in 1325 by Charles, Duke of Calabria, and consecrated in 1368, largely rebuilt in Baroque style in the 17th century under the architect Cosimo Fanzago. Since 1866 it has housed the National Museum of San Martino, devoted to the art and history of Naples from the Bourbon period to Italian unification, arranged around three cloisters and hanging gardens overlooking the city.
