National archaeological museum founded in 1817 by Count Michele Della Torre di Valsassina to establish Cividale as the site of the Roman municipium of Forum Iulii. Since 1990 it has occupied the Palazzo dei Provveditori Veneti, a 16th-century building traditionally attributed to Andrea Palladio, and its collection centres on Lombard funerary archaeology alongside Roman inscriptions and bronzes from Zuglio.
