Fortress at Ostia Antica built 1483-1486 for Cardinal Giuliano della Rovere, the future Pope Julius II, probably to a design by Baccio Pontelli. Its triangular plan with three towers was intended to defend Rome's river approach and control the Tiber grain trade; the interior staircase is decorated with mythological frescoes by Baldassarre Peruzzi. Now part of the Ostia Antica Archaeological Park, it houses a museum.
