Archaeological park north of Grosseto preserving the Etruscan and Roman city of Roselle, settled from the early 7th century BCE on hills overlooking the former Lake Prile. Its walls, over three kilometres long and dating to the 6th century BCE, are among the best-preserved Etruscan fortifications; the city, conquered by Rome in 294 BCE, remained a bishopric until its diocese was transferred to Grosseto in 1138.
