Ghent museum tracing its origins to 1903, when local industrialists and art lovers founded a decorative-arts collection later moved into the 18th-century Hôtel de Coninck. A modern extension by architect Willy Verstraete opened in 1992, and the museum now holds some 22,000 objects spanning Art Nouveau, applied arts and contemporary Belgian design, including works by Henry van de Velde.
