Museum of everyday life in Ghent, established in 1962 in a hospice built in the second half of the 14th century by the Rijm family, which housed eighteen elderly women in penance for a family murder until the last residents left in 1863. Restored by the city after its purchase in 1941, the eighteen small houses around a courtyard, with a Renaissance chapel added in 1543, now illustrate working-class urban life around 1900 through its birth, festival, religious and trade collections.
