Museum of Ghent's industrial heritage, founded in 1976 and housed since 1990 in the Desmet-Guéquier cotton mill, built between 1905 and 1912 on the model of Manchester's cotton factories. Across five floors it traces the city's evolution from medieval wool production to linen and cotton manufacturing, centred on a mule-jenny spinning machine smuggled to the Continent by Liévin Bauwels in 1798.
