A departmental museum set in the former palace of the bishops of Grenoble, opened in 1998 at the end of an extensive heritage restoration around place Notre-Dame. Its archaeological basement preserves the city's early Christian baptistery, uncovered during excavations, while the exhibition traces the history and heritage of the Isère.
