Founded in 1985 for the fortieth anniversary of the event, the museum occupies part of the former Collège Moderne et Technique of Reims, later the Lycée Franklin-Roosevelt, where Eisenhower set up the Allied headquarters in February 1945. The map room, where the German surrender was signed on 7 May 1945 at 2:41 a.m., is listed as a historic monument.
