Founded in 1817 and set in a wing of the town hall on place Philibert-de-Chalon, the museum presents on the ground floor works by the sculptor Jean-Joseph Perraud (1819–1876), who bequeathed part of his output to it. The upper floor brings together some thirty paintings of the French, Nordic and Italian schools, including a Courbet.
