Set up in the Hôtel Hébert, a 16th-century house remodelled in the 18th century, where Gustave Courbet was born in 1819. Founded in 1947 at the initiative of the painter Robert Fernier and opened on this site in 1971, it was enlarged between 2008 and 2011 and holds paintings, drawings, sculpture and archives of the master of Ornans.
