Opened in 1974 in the former Hôtel des Messageries Royales, on the banks of the Saône, in the birthplace of Nicéphore Niépce (1765-1833), the inventor of photography. Its collections bring together nearly four million images and more than 1,500 cameras, including the very first in history.
