Founded in 1905 and initially devoted to archaeology, the museum has occupied a building by the architect Bernard Desmoulin since 2003. It presents more than 800 pieces tracing the history of the Sarrebourg area, earthenware and porcelain from Niderviller, and the preparatory drawings for the stained-glass windows Marc Chagall made for the nearby Chapelle des Cordeliers.
