Born from gifts made between 1831 and 1835 by Thomas Henry, a picture dealer and expert to the royal museums, it opened in 1835 with 163 paintings. Housed since 1983 in the Le Quasar cultural centre, it holds Italian primitives and France's second-largest collection of works by Jean-François Millet.
