Cistercian abbey near Veroli, built between 1203 and 1217 on the site of a Benedictine community established around 1005 amid the ruins of the Roman town of Cereatae; its monks adopted the Cistercian reform between 1140 and 1152. Regarded as one of the finest examples of Cistercian Gothic architecture in Italy, it has a three-nave basilica, a chapter house of nine vaulted bays supported by four pillars, and an extensive library.
