Franciscan basilica in Viterbo begun in 1237 on land donated by Pope Gregory IX, with a Romanesque facade and a Gothic interior on a Latin-cross plan. It holds the tombs of two 13th-century popes, Clement IV (d. 1268) by Pietro di Oderisio and Adrian V (d. 1276) attributed to Arnolfo di Cambio; severely damaged by bombing in 1944, it was raised to minor basilica status in 1949 and reopened after reconstruction in 1953.
