Renaissance villa and garden at Bagnaia, near Viterbo, built between 1511 and 1566 for Cardinal Gianfrancesco Gambara to a design by Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola, comprising two matching pavilions flanking a formal garden fed by an elaborate water chain. Regarded as one of the finest examples of an Italian Renaissance garden, it passed after the cardinal's death in 1587 to his nephew and later to the Lante family, from whom it takes its name.
