Carthusian monastery founded in 1306 by Tommaso II Sanseverino, with the confirmation of King Charles II of Anjou, and expanded over the following centuries into the largest charterhouse in Italy, largely rebuilt in Baroque style between the 16th and 18th centuries around three cloisters. Suppressed in the 19th century, it has housed the Provincial Archaeological Museum of Western Lucania since 1957 and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1998.
