Archaeological area of Velia, the ancient Greek city of Elea founded around 540-535 BC by Phocaean refugees, part of the Paestum and Velia Archaeological Parks. Excavated remains include the Porta Rosa gate, the acropolis, Hellenistic and Roman baths, and the agora; Elea was home to the pre-Socratic Eleatic School of philosophy founded by Parmenides and continued by Zeno and Melissus.
