Founded in 1760 by Duke Filippo di Borbone after the discovery of Roman bronzes at Velleia, one of the earliest archaeological museums in Italy. Its holdings span twelve Julio-Claudian marble statues and the Tabula Alimentaria from Velleia, an Egyptian section built up under Maria Luigia, and prehistoric finds from the Terramare culture.
